This sensor is for qualitative measurements only, and is useful for indicating sunrise, sunset, and cloud conditions. </td></tr> <tr><td><b>Wind Sensor</b><br>The wind speed and direction sensor is produced using optical sensor technology to increase the longevity and durability of the unit. The wind speed is accurate to +/- 2% with a starting threshold of <= 1 mph. The wind sensor has been tested at the University of Maryland College Park Wind Tunnel to speeds up to 170 mph. The wind direction sensor has 16 compass points output, accurate to +-12.5 degrees and has a threshold <="1" mph.</td></tr> <tr><td><b>Temperature/Humidity Sensor</b><br>The AWS temperature and humidity sensor uses solid state measuring devices encapsulated in an epoxy material to protect the electronics from moisture damage. The sensors are housed in a conical, aspirated sensor shield to protect the sensors from direct exposure to the sun, and promote natural air flow around the sensors. The outdoor temperature can be measured with an accuracy of +/- 1 degree Fahrenheit. The humidity sensor has an accuracy of +/-2% in the 40-98% RH range, and an accuracy of +/-5% in the <40,>98% RH range.</td></tr> <tr><td><b>Rain Gauge</b><br>The self-emptying tipping bucket rain gauge is designed for ease of maintenance and consistant reliability. It measures liquid precipitation with a threshold of 0.01 inches. Accurate to +/-2%, the rain gauge features a heavy duty screen to prevent clogging from falling debris.</td></tr> </table>
